NCCCO to Offer Exams, Workshops at ConExpo

Updated Lift Safety Zone will provide expert advice on safe setup and operation

CECA-2017-200x-transpJanuary 2017—New candidates and existing certificants alike will be given an opportunity to take a wide variety of CCO written, practical, and recertification exams at CONEXPO 2017, to be held March 7–11 in Las Vegas, NV. Additionally, practical examiner workshops for most CCO programs will be conducted onsite before and after the event. These exams and workshops have been designed to allow CONEXPO attendees to maximize their time spent at the expo and, with NCCCO’s onsite scoring system, actually bring home with them renewed or additional OSHA- recognized and soon-to-be required credentials.

The once-every-three-years equipment showcase will feature over 2,400 exhibitors and is expected to draw over 130,000 attendees. “CONEXPO provides an excellent opportunity for attendees to earn or renew their CCO certifications and/or accreditations while attending one of the largest events of its kind in the world,” noted NCCCO CEO, Graham Brent.

CCO Certification Written and Practical Exam Administrations

On Tuesday March 7 and Friday March 10, CONEXPO attendees will be able to take any CCO written exam in the 26 categories now offered by NCCCO onsite at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This includes both regular and recertification exams for all NCCCO programs. To register and get the complete schedule for written exams, contact Kim Qualls at kqualls@nccco.org.

In addition, on all five days of the show, CCO practical exams will be offered for Rigger Level II, and mobile and articulating crane operators. On Wednesday and Thursday practical exams will be offered for the Signalperson and Rigger Level I programs. To register and schedule practical exams, please contact Jeniel Shaw at jshaw@nccco.org. Preregistration is recommended for all testing events, so secure your spot today!

Practical Examiner Accreditation Workshops

NCCCO-accredited Practical Examiners are CCO-certified personnel who have been trained and authorized by NCCCO to administer the practical examinations for CCO certification programs. NCCCO Practical Examiners are recognized as professionals in their field and many offer their services for hire.

In the days before, during, and after the exposition, NCCCO will hold Practical Examiner Accreditation Program (PEAP) workshops for CCO certificants seeking to become Practical Examiners for CCO programs. Refresher workshops for Practical Examiners needing to reaccredit will be held at the beginning of each workshop.

Before the expo a one-day Mobile Crane PEAP refresher workshop will be held on March 2; a full Mobile Crane workshop will be held March 2–4; and a two-day Articulating Crane PEAP workshop will be held March 3–4. On the final day of the event, one-day refresher PEAPs will be held for the Mobile crane and Rigger Level I programs on March 11. Just after the show, a three-day mobile crane workshop will be held March 12–14 and a one-day Signalperson workshop will be held on March 12. A two-day Rigger Level I PEAP Workshop will be held on March 13–14 followed by a two-day Rigger Level II PEAP workshop on March 15–16.

Education Sessions

CONEXPO attendees should check out the brand new seminars on key crane and rigging issues that will be a major feature of the event. Event organizer AEM has assembled a stellar lineup of presentations on a host of crane and rigging topics, many of them sponsored by NCCCO. Speakers lined up so far are veteran safety professionals and experts in their field. Attendance is limited for all sessions, so, if the last CONEXPO is anything to go by, these sessions may well sell out early. Book online and review all the planned education sessions, including the entire Crane, Rigging, and Aerial Lift education track.

Lift Safety Zone

LSZ-logo-with-NCCCO-200xAt CONEXPO 2017, NCCCO is also once again hosting its landmark Lift Safety Zone (LSZ). Located in Gold Lot #G4301 and open throughout the exposition, the LSZ provides an excellent opportunity for anyone working with and around cranes and rigging to find expert advice on safe setup and operation. The LSZ is geared toward crane safety, with particular attention this year on ground bearing pressures exerted by mobile cranes set up on outriggers and the need to be aware of them (and how they change during operation) to ensure safe operation. Live machinery demonstrations, a rigging clinic, and the latest in virtual reality technology will also be featured. And, of course, industry experts will be on hand to give practical safety advice to those who operate, manage, and work with cranes and rigging.

The new OSHA rules for cranes and derricks used in construction (29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC) that come into full force and effect in November specifically address employers’ increased responsibilities for certifying and qualifying their personnel, and visitors to the Lift Safety Zone will be able to find out what they need to do be ensure they are in compliance.
